Learning to row

The Mission Bay Aquatic Center offers (MBAC) year round, on-the-water rowing classes for beginners. Courses are offered in both sculling and sweep rowing in structured classes as well as private lessons for those desiring one-on-one interaction or needing a more flexible schedule. The instructors are United States Rowing Association (USRA) certified and have competed at the college and masters levels as well as coached a number of junior, masters, and collegiate crews.

MBAC's course schedules are on their site.

MBRA is primarily a sweep rowing organization, so we prefer new members to have completed at least one course in sweep rowing.

To signup for courses, contact MBAC at:

Voice: 858-488-2040 or by
Email: rowing@missionbayaquaticcenter.com

Once you've completed a course with MBAC you can join the Mission Bay Rowing Association (MBRA) and continue your learning experience. MBRA provides coaching and sees to it that everyone gets a chance to row in a team boat if they so desire.
