General information

MBRA is a community rowing organization. We are comprised of rowers of various ages and abilities. Our programs are open to anyone who is interesting in a healty, outdoor, group oriented sport. In addition to rowing we have a number of non-rowing social activites including our annual holiday and end-of summer gatherings.

All coaches are CPR, First Aid and Water Safety certified. Coaches in launches are California Boating Safety certified. MBRA offers both sweep rowing and sculling to its members in team or individual boats. The MBRA women's masters program is the most competitively successful women's team in San Diego. MBRA is also the lowest cost rowing club in San Diego.

MBRA operates out of the H.Del Beekley Rowing Center, at the south wing of the building. The Rowing Center houses over 50 rowing shell, and 30 kayaks. SDSU Collegiate Rowing Teams, and two club teams daily use the Rowing Center to train. There is also a sculling program available for those rowers who prefer to row individually. There are lockers and warm showers available at the Aquatic Center. You will need to supply your own lock, towels, soap, etc..

Rowing is a very good fitness activity. It burns nearly the same amount of calories per hour as does cross-country skiing - the best aerobic activity. Rowing strengthens your upper and lower body as well as your heart muscle. The motion of rowing is not hard on the joints, therefore the sport can be continued throughout your life, with little injury. For the competitive rowers, who are driving their shells as fast as possible to the non-competitive, recreational rower, who enjoys the challenge of achieving the perfect stroke, or the tranquillity of an early morning of bird watching, the Mission Bay Rowing Association offers a unique rowing opportunity in America's Finest City.

MBRA is a non-profit organization with 501 (c) 3 status. If you are interested in making a tax deductable contribution of equipment or funds, please contact funding@mbra.net. Your generosity would be greatly appreciated.
